Lee Roy Selmon has a tradition that blends family scholarship football with volunteering for the community. First family: he's the youngest of nine children born to Lucious and Jessie Semon who grew up on a farm in Eufala, Oklahoma. Also, he was one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma on the field of football. The three brothers were all All-America. The year 1973 was the first time Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the players for just one season. Lee Roy received the Outland and Lombardi Awards for being the most effective lineman in the country. In his three years as the starting line-up Oklahoma finished 32-1-0 and also won two championships at the national level. Selmon was given a second award in 1975. In addition, he was referred to as an National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon earned a bachelor's in the field of education. Lee Roy spent ten hours per week volunteering during college. In Tampa, he played for the Buccaneers nine seasons and became an all-pro. In addition, he began his career in business. In 1988 he took on the role of account manager for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also a part of the following organisations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as being among 10 of the most outstanding American young men. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 lbs when playing in the college football league. As of 1975, Lee Roy was a leader of the team. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993 as the associate director of sports. The College Football Hall of Fame was named for him in 1988. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame In 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded its Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. The award ceremony was conducted by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
